What it is

What It Does

Practising Law Institute (PLI) is a nonprofit continuing legal education (CLE) provider founded in 1933 and based in New York. It runs accredited CLE programs in live, webcast, and on-demand formats, drawing on a faculty of practising lawyers, judges, and regulators. PLI also publishes treatises, course handbooks, answer books, and journals, distributed through its PLI PLUS online research platform. In March 2025 it relaunched its website as PLI.edu with a personalised program-discovery interface.

What We Found

PLI is chartered by the Regents of the University of the State of New York and is one of the longer-established CLE bodies in the US. Its publishing arm and the PLI PLUS subscription library put it in the legal-research/reference category as well as training. We have not found independent reviews of the PLUS platform’s depth versus competitors.
