What it is

What It Does

Octus, formerly Reorg, is a credit intelligence and data provider. It supplies research, news and data on distressed debt, restructuring and credit markets to buy-side firms, investment banks, law firms and advisory firms, supporting due diligence, portfolio work and risk analysis. Law firms are a core customer segment, which is why it sits in a legal-tech context β€” its restructuring and bankruptcy coverage is used by legal teams, though the product itself is financial intelligence rather than legal workflow software.

What We Found

The company rebranded from Reorg to Octus in October 2024 (rebrand led by consultancy Prophet); the name is drawn from β€œoculus”, Latin for eye. Founded in 2013 and headquartered in New York, it reports a network of 35,000+ professional users and publishes 250+ daily news items. It is owned by private equity firm Permira, which press reports in 2025 indicated was preparing a sale process valued at around $4bn.

What We Haven’t Verified

  • LinkedIn follower count β€” third-party trackers report figures in the mid-40,000s, but we have not confirmed against the live LinkedIn page, so it is omitted.
  • Exact current headcount β€” employee range is approximate, drawn from third-party trackers (~788 reported March 2026).
  • The reported $4bn sale valuation β€” press-stated, not confirmed.
  • No practitioner or community feedback gathered yet.
