What it is

What It Does

Lexis Create is a Microsoft 365 add-in from LexisNexis for drafting inside Word, Outlook, Teams and Copilot. Its document-intelligence layer comes from Henchman, a Belgian legal-tech startup LexisNexis acquired in 2024. Henchman’s core function is to index a firm’s existing contracts and templates in its document management system (DMS), then surface relevant clauses, definitions and prior drafting directly in Word so lawyers can reuse their own past language. The combined product is also offered as Lexis Create+ within Microsoft 365.

What We Found

Henchman was founded in 2020 in Ghent, Belgium, by Gilles Mattelin, Jorn Vanysacker and Wouter Van Respaille. LexisNexis Legal & Professional announced the acquisition on 3 June 2024, describing searchable internal contract data as one of customers’ most-requested capabilities. The product integrates with DMS platforms including iManage and NetDocuments (both verified) and with the Microsoft 365 stack. In January 2025, LexisNexis launched Create+ in MS 365, built on the Henchman technology.
