What it is

What It Does

Afterpattern (formerly Community.lawyer) was a no-code automation toolkit for legal professionals, letting law firms, courts and legal-aid organizations build web apps, databases and client portals to assemble documents and run workflows without writing code.

It is no longer a standalone product. NetDocuments acquired Afterpattern in November 2021, and the technology became the basis for PatternBuilder, NetDocuments’ native no-code document and workflow automation tool, launched in August 2022. Practitioners evaluating this capability today should look at NetDocuments PatternBuilder rather than Afterpattern as an independent vendor.

What We Found

The acquisition was announced on 3 November 2021 and is documented by NetDocuments and covered by Legal IT Insider, LawSites and Lawyerist. PatternBuilder is sold as part of NetDocuments’ DELIVER solution and runs inside the NetDocuments content-management platform. Afterpattern’s own university site still hosts tutorials and an acquisition FAQ.

What We Haven’t Verified

  • Whether any legacy standalone Afterpattern accounts remain active versus fully migrated to PatternBuilder
  • Pricing — handled through NetDocuments, not published
  • Original Afterpattern founding details, headcount or funding before acquisition
