What it is

What It Does

Stenograph makes hardware and software for court reporters, captioners, and transcription professionals. Its product line includes steno writing machines (Luminex II, and the Diamante and Nexgen families) and CATalyst, its computer-aided transcription (CAT) software for turning steno output into formatted transcripts. The Luminex line uses the vendor’s TrueStroke technology to track individual keystroke movement.

What We Found

Stenograph was founded in 1938 and is based in Downers Grove, Illinois — one of the longest-running names in court reporting hardware, with more than 85 years in the field. The Luminex writer launched in 2015. The company sells both directly and through resellers, and a secondary market in refurbished writers exists. This is reporter/captioner equipment, not firm-side practice software.
