Cohort method
Per-month sums of each vendor's index score — the same score behind
the rlegaltech500, derived from independent public signals we don't
itemise. Only vendors with
a confirmed lawyer-founded verdict (true or false) are compared —
the 388 unknowns are in neither cohort. The cohorts differ in
size (77 vs 25),
so per-company averages are shown alongside the additive totals; the
chart plots the averages so both lines share one scale.

Method and honest counts
For each of the rlegaltech500 we looked for public evidence — press
profiles, firm bios, bar records, founder interviews — that a founder
qualified and practised as a lawyer. The result: 83 confirmed
lawyer-founded , 26 confirmed not,
3 where a founder holds a law degree but we found no
practice or bar-admission evidence (not counted above),
and 388 unknown — we found no public founder
record either way. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence: a
vendor missing from this table may well be lawyer-founded. Corrections
