Methodology

  • Rank source. Composite popularity score — branded search volume (Google Ads Keyword Planner) plus LinkedIn followers, both power-law scaled. Computed monthly in scripts/build-vendors-json.cjs.
  • Movement threshold. 1-month moves of ±20 places or more. Below that, week-to-week noise can dominate.
  • Brand-collision filter. Vendors whose brand keyword volume is dominated by non-legaltech meanings (e.g. "Onit" as a food brand) are flagged GENERIC and use modifier-based volume only.
  • Multi-product roll-up. Child products (e.g. Westlaw under Thomson Reuters) roll up to the parent's score. They don't appear here as independent movers.
  • Known false-positive blocklist. Slugs in MOVERS_BLOCKLIST are suppressed until data is corrected. Currently: access-legal.
